6 Reasons the Last Few Weeks Were Awesome

1) Our first Friday in town ended up being our friend Michelle’s surprise birthday party. Of everyone we didn’t get to see as much when we were in NH, Michelle and Josh were two of the ones we missed the most. We’ve got some standing plans coming up sooner rather than later as we line everything back up a bit, but it felt good to a) see them and b) be able to leave at 11:30 and be in bed by midnight.

2) Working from home. I shouldn’t say I’m 100% on board with it yet, but I’ll say this much - working in your pajamas is amazing, and when you clock out at 4:30 and your commute is already finished? That is quite nice. Things that have suffered as a result include general cleanliness and hygiene (because, again, you’re working in what you’re sleeping in, etc), but once I get into a routine?

3) Gaming with Mike. He’s been teasing running a homebrew World of Darkness game called Genius: the Transgression for a while, and it’s only now getting off the ground, and it’s already off to a pretty great start after one game. I’m really, really excited for this.

4) Watchmen on Friday, of course, but also the surrounding. We did dinner with a bunch of people beforehand at the British Beer Company: along with Tiff and Steph, we ate with Bill and Mandy who we rarely see outside of gaming and hope to change now that we’re 40 minutes closer, and Debbie and her husband Chris, who we never got to hang out with before and would gladly hang with again. The only thing better than a night with a good movie is a night with good people, and I feel like Friday more than succeeded at that -

5) I’m glad we’re doing a good job seeing more people since we moved. Just throwing that out there while recognizing that there are still people we’re not caught up with yet.

6) D&D Sunday was pretty straightforward - an hour of strategy, five hours of butt kicking. We ended up against a nightwalker (level 17ish), but also had a few high level NPCs aiding us. Even then, the nightwalker’s undead army came by and unloaded. Amazingly, no one in the party died (although there were a couple close calls), and we got the nightwalker down to 40 HP before it tried unsuccessfully to retreat. Pretty awesome.

I’ve finally got the wizarding thing down, too, I think. I’m coming close, anyway - giving me a levitation utility has done wonders for my ability to avoid stuff, and I was able to nuke 13 minions from orbit in today’s session, so I’m feeling much more confident. Ann’s doing great, too - her dwarf fighter is just beating people down, which is fun.

Coming soon: live Duncan Sheik, Ann & Jeff visit a Humanist Society meeting, the last 3 weeks of dodgeball for a while, the last 3 episodes of Battlestar, the unfortunate reality that is Twilight on DVD, baseball season, my birthday…
