Random Catch-Up Notes
For someone who really wants to crack down and blog more regularly, I'm sure doing a shit job of it.

1) Thanksgiving was a-okay! We went up to Maine, hung out with Ann's brother, sister-in-law, and mother, and then spent the rest of the weekend at home. Really laid back, nothing too crazy. I think I put in roughly 8 hours on Team Fortress 2 on Saturday, alone. A good, non-busy weekend is just what we needed, especially since I don't think we have a free weekend until 2008 at this point.

2) So the New Hampshire primary is on 8 January. I look forward to the craziness. Expect heavy election blogging. Or something.

3) Two electoral notes I don't understand:

a) Why I feel like I'm falling under the spell of McCain. Now I know why voters don't vote in ways that ultimately benefit themselves - if the right guy comes along, they can easily rationalize things in their head and ignore the warts. I assume that's why Rudy Giuliani has any support, and John Edwards is a master of this sort of manipulation, but I can't say I dislike what McCain's been up to as of late. I get why he's suddenly surging. I can't support him in good conscience, but if he were to somehow grab the nomination (or the Presidency), I can't say I'd be all that angry about it, either.

b) I blame David for The Great Huckabee Adventure. Why he appeals to anyone, I don't know - there are better candidates for each issue he stands for - and when I see bloggers I respect falling for his charms (current company excluded), well, it's depressing. Very depressing.

4) I've been reading a lot more than usual lately, it feels. I can't explain why, but, for the first time in ages, the pile(s) of books to read is starting to look somewhat manageable. That doesn't mean I don't have a list 20 books long waiting to be reserved in Manchester, or that a separate text file doesn't have 30 more in it, but yeah.

5) I gave up on Reaper and Gossip Girl, we finished Tell Me You Love Me (talk about a bizarre finale on that one), and Ann's given up on Chuck even though I still really like it. Keeping in mind that I still haven't tried Bionic Woman, this means that, of all the new shows we set out to try and watch this year, the only ones both Ann and I have stuck with are Pushing Daisies and Tell Me You Love Me. I suppose that's a good thing?

6) Thoughts on Battlestar Galactica: Razor: interesting, but a) I completely missed the lesbian subplot. Like, completely. Straight over my head, and b) the "twist" at the end seemed very obvious to me. One thing for sure, though - seeing BSG again for the first time in a while was a great reminder of how superior this show is to most of the rest of the stuff I watch.

7) Sleeper music obsession of 2007? Dan Wilson's solo album. Who knew there was life after Semisonic? Anyway, I'll be compiling the relevant best-of lists sooner rather than later, and this has really been a disappointing year for music altogether, I feel. That only 3 or 4 albums really leapt out and grabbed me isn't really a good thing, I suppose.

8) Assassin's Creed is awesome, and not just because Kristen Bell is in it. I'd play it more if TF2 wasn't owning my soul, but you have to be in the right mindset to get all backstabby all the time. I also enjoy Beautiful Katamari, although it, like other Katamari games, is too short. Props to Kevin for some hookups arriving later this week. And I still like Super Mario Galaxy, but, for the first time in ages, I have too many games I want to play and not enough time to play them. Kind of neat.

I think that covers everything for now.

I saw Razor before it aired on TV. When people asked me how it was I told them it was so good it intentionally took nose dives toward bad and pulled up at the last minute like a stunt pilot showing off. The lesbian subplot and the bringing back of the classic cylons made me think the writers outsourced this one to a bad fan fic writer. But they pulled it off!

I actually loved the use of the old Cylons. A better explanation of why they had one in the museum during the miniseries.

I recommend catching up on Bionic Woman if you get the chance. I've been hooked since the beginning. To me, the first 2-3 episodes aren't as good as the latest ones coming out, but I think now they've settled in and it's easier to see what direction the show is going in.

Also, I'm glad you mentioned Pushing Daisies in a previous post. I'm hooked on this one too now and it probably would've taken me awhile to watch an episode if I hadn't heard the good recommendation. I'm slowly starting to see more people mention it, which I'm glad because it's such a unique show.

Yay Daisies!

I'll get to Bionic Woman eventually, I'm sure. Probably once I catch up w/Chuck.

As much as I love gaming, I suck at online mulitplayer. I tried TF2 last week and this is what I heard through my headset, "Game Couch ....garble... where are....help...Game Couch...get over...." and then my side lost.

For whatever reason, I'm pretty damn good at TF2. I don't know why, but I seem to do fairly well with it. Finding a good server is really hard, though, and if anyone else is online on your network, forget a 16 person match.

I think the reason why the Huck is doing so well in Iowa is because he gives the appearance of being genuine.

He's gonna run into trouble in your neck of the woods, but if he can hang on until So Carolina, he might be in it for the long haul.

Terry is obsessed with Mass Effect, but our roommate is obsessed with Assassin's Creed. There, now you can tell who's playing when we pop up on XBL. (Puzzle Quest = me.)

I recognized her face right away, and then the voice nailed it completely. Go figure. I understand that Seth Green did some voice stuff for Mass Effect, too.

It's kind of crazy, no?

considering this writer's strike is going to be long lasting, i highly recommend renting the first season of 30 Rock and watching it. then you can stream the episodes of season 2 thus far on nbc's website. i've successfully made multiple fans of that show through my suggestions. (who can't find a show making fun of it's corporate ownership hilarious?)

Since people are recommending things, did you check out the second episode of Journeyman? I say that because I hear a lot of people didn't like the first episode, but our house has been tuning in weekly and it seems to have gotten a lot better with momentum.

Not sure how the strike will affect it, though.

Well, it's based off of a YA book. How couldn't I give it a shot?

With that said, I barely lasted 10 minutes.

As for Reaper, I’m still watching this. Just wondering, what exactly about the show is turning you off?

I thought the first episode was fun in a stoner-Buffy way, but the second episode bored me to tears and I couldn't care less midway through the third. Not liking anyone except the Devil didn't help.

You know, I almost fell under the McCain spell. And for me that's HUGE. But, in his commercial that's running constantly, he mentions that he criticized Rumsfeld's Iraq policy, which didn't work, but supported the current policy that is working. That's when I came to, because anyone who believes anything is going well in Iraq is clearly insane, and not in a fun Kucinich kind of way. Then I remembered he sold his soul and pretended to be Bush's best buddy in 2004. I'll probably just end up writing in Colbert.

And I don't care how much you liked Veronica Mars, her character in Heroes was totally worth that show getting cancelled.
